The Game Reserves of The Eastern Cape (day trips should be pre-booked)



1 ~ Addo Elephant Park (entrance fee on request)

An hours drive from Port Elizabeth is the Addo Elephant National Park. It is a malaria free area and boasts a wide variety of game viewing, outdoor adventure, accommodation and cultural experiences. More than 350 elephants roam through this area. The Park also offers viewing of the Cape Buffalo, Black Rhino and Leopard, as well as other large and small mammals and over 400 species of bird.

2 ~ Shamwari Game Reserve (day tour including lunch: fee on request)

The Shamwari Game Reserve is a 20 000 hectare malaria free reserve that boats five eco systems and offers 'The Big Five'. The Khaya Lendaba is an African Arts and Culture Village, where visitors can experience traditional African dancing and storytelling at its best. The Born Free Foundation promotes the conservation of species and the protection of habitat.

3 ~ Lalibela Game Reserve (day tour including lunch: fee on request)

Lalibela Game Reserve, meaning 'for whom the bees have foretold greatness', is located in the Eastern Cape and spans four ecosystems resulting in a breathtaking diversity of fauna and flora. Lalibela Brings you the charm of authentic Africa and is a perfect blend of the formal and informal. Lalibella brings you face to face with a multitude of game species, ranging from the mighty elephant, rhino and buffalo to tiny blue duiker and rock hyrax. The Game Reserve is also home to hippo, giraffe, zebra, warthog and numerous species of antelope.

4 ~ Amakhala Game Reserve (day/night tour: fee on request)

Amakhala is named after the Xhosa word meaning Aloes. Steeped in history and beauty, this 5000-hectare game reserve creates an ideal environment for an unforgettable safari and an intimate experience of the varied landscape, including breathtaking views of the Bushman's River.

5 ~ Kariega Game Reserve (day tour: fee on request)

The Kariega Game Reserve is located in a region that is startling in its quiet beauty, with raptors circling overhead and sleek antelope grazing contentedly in the bushveld. Kariega hosts more than twenty-five species of game, including Rhino, Giraffe and Zebra, a wide variety of antelope and more than 250 bird species. Unique features of the Kariega experience are the ability to walk safely on marked trails close to abundant game and bird life, and the diversity of the activities and attractions it offers which include game drives with experienced rangers, river cruises, canoeing, mountain biking, fishing and swimming in beautiful river pools.
